What: Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change: Upping the Game!
Where: Met High School, 810 V St., Sacramento
When: Saturday, May 17, 9am – 4pm (registration/networking begins at 8:30am, the after-party begins at 4pm)
Sponsored by: 350 Sacramento and other organizations
Climate change is already affecting the Sacramento region but the pace of response so far has been limited. Considering the scope of the challenge, we must “up the game.”
A Town Hall is democracy in action. This 1-day event will provide a forum for the community to come together to discuss and seek solutions to the climate crisis. In addition to providing an opportunity for the public to share their thoughts and ideas, we are inviting elected officials to give short statements about what they are doing to address climate change and the barriers they see to effective action.
The Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change will bring together the broad spectrum of interests and expertise in the Sacramento region. Many organizations, individuals, and agencies are already actively working on parts of the solution. The Town Hall will facilitate networking of these various interests to encourage effective and immediate action. As an example of our capacity for creative solutions, the PA system for the event will be people-powered.
A crowd-sourced Action Plan will be created in advance of the Town Hall, then finalized during the event. Participants will add their ideas to the Plan, which will be used as a guide to stimulate action that will carry on throughout the year. Another Town Hall is planned for 2015 to update the Action Plan and measure progress.
The day will be broken into several segments. There will be speakers, public statements, statements by elected officials, breakouts by interest area, and an after-party/reception. Participants will learn about exciting climate-related activities already underway and network with others to strengthen and increase our effectiveness.
The Town Hall on Climate Change will be held on Saturday, May 17 at the Met High School, 810 V. St in Sacramento. Registration will open in April. A suggested donation of $10–20 is requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We welcome additional endorsers and cosponsors.
Please register here, then pay at the door (by registering, we can send you information prior to the event and have a count for planning purposes).
