What: Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change: Upping the Game!
Where: Met High School, 810 V St., Sacramento
When: Saturday, May 17, 9:30am – 4pm (doors open at 8:30am, party until 5:30pm)
Sponsored by: 350 Sacramento and other organizations
Climate change is already affecting the Sacramento region but the pace of response so far has been limited. Considering the scope of the challenge, we must “up the game.”
A town hall is democracy in action. This historic full-day event will bring the community together to seek concrete local solutions to the climate crisis. Mark Hertsgaard, author of Hot: Living Through the Next Fifty Years on Earth, will keynote the town hall, with Erik de Kok bringing the discussion back home to the Sacramento area. Radio host Kat Maudru will MC the morning session.
There will be segments of the day for public comments, elected officials will let us know how we can help them effect change, and we will gather by interest area to create an Action Plan with concrete actions that continue beyond the town hall. The day will end with a party and live band. A second Town Hall is planned for 2015 to update the Action Plan and measure progress.
The Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change will bring together the broad spectrum of interests and expertise in the Sacramento region. Many organizations, individuals, and agencies are already actively working on parts of the solution. The Town Hall will help network these diverse interests to encourage effective and immediate action.
As an example of our capacity for creative solutions, the PA system for the event will be people-powered. In addition, we will have valet bike parking to encourage low-carbon transport. Our venue is The Met High School, a LEED-certified building with innovative features. The Town Hall is sponsored by 350 Sacramento, with endorsement by over two dozen local organizations. Access Sacramento will film and broadcast the event.
The Town Hall on Climate Change will be held on Saturday, May 17 at The Met High School, 810 V. St in Sacramento. A donation of $10–20 is requested (18 and under free); no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please register below to receive important information prior to the event.
